Donadoni expects Glasgow showdown
Andrea Pirlo and Fabio Grosso celebrate against Georgia
Italy's Andrea Pirlo and Fabio Grosso scored against Georgia
Italy coach Roberto Donadoni is anticipating a winner-take-all Euro 2008 qualifying clash with Scotland at Hampden on 17 November.

The Scots lead Group B, a point ahead of Italy but with the French a further point behind with two games left.

"It now sets up a big match with Scotland next month," said Donadoni.

"I think it will be a beautiful game in Glasgow and both teams will need to be at 100%. The team who performs on the pitch will win it and take everything."

Georgia arrived in Italy second bottom of the group and without captain and AC Milan defender Kakha Kaladze through injury.

Luca Toni did strike the post, but it was not until Andrea Pirlo's free-kick just before half-time that Italy finally broke the deadlock.

There are some things we need to improve on

And the world champion only killed the game off with seven minutes remaining through Fabio Grosso.

"The important thing for us was to win and we have succeeded in our objective," said Donadoni.

"I am satisfied because we have played well and my players showed the right spirit."

But the coach admitted that there was room for improvement.

"I didn't see the game against Scotland," said Donadoni. "Now we have one month to prepare for our game against Scotland.

"There are some things we need to improve on, in terms of play as well as condition, because some of my players are not at their best."

While Scotland face Georgia on Wednesday, the Azzurri take on South Africa in an international friendly in Siena.

But Donadoni, whose side finish their qualifying campaign against the Faroe Islands, has named a near B squad, with many fringe players having little chance to of staking a claim for the Scotland game.

"It will be a good test for some new call-ups," he said. "I have decided to rest those that have played more."

World Cup-winning strikers Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi, controversially left out of the squad for the Georgia game, have also been omitted for Wednesday.

However, Del Piero, in particular, may feel he can force his way back into Donadoni's plans after the attacking trident of Luca Toni, Antonio Di Natale and Fabio Quagliarella failed to gel against Georgia.

Udinese's Di Natale, who played in Del Piero's usual role on the left, was the more impressive of the three as he celebrated his 30th birthday.
