Davies pulled from Wales friendly
Simon Davies
Simon Davies has suffered another injury setback
Everton manager David Moyes says Simon Davies will not be fit for Wales' match with Cyprus in Limassol next Wednesday.

Davies sustained a hamstring injury in Sunday's 1-0 win over Middlesbrough and Moyes insists he will not be available for the "meaningless friendly".

Wales will also be without captain Ryan Giggs, who is recovering from a fractured cheekbone.

But Blackburn striker Craig Bellamy is fit again and should be included when the squad is announced on Thursday.

Wales could insist Davies is checked by their own medical staff before next Wednesday's match, but manager John Toshack is unlikely to make an issue of the situation for only a friendly.

And Moyes, who has only recently welcomed Davies back from injury, questioned the wisdom of arranging the match saying : "Wales have a meaningless friendly in Cyprus at this stage of the season.

"What is that all about? What is the point of that? Simon Davies has an injury and will not be going on that trip."

Striker Bellamy has missed the last five internationals through injury, but the 26-year-old has scored four goals in four games since recovering from his latest setback.

Lewis Price is also over the hip injury that prevented him from winning his first cap in last month's World Cup double-header against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.

Experiment

The Ipswich goalkeeper could one of a number of youngsters selected to face Cyprus as Toshack continues to build towards the future.

Richard Duffy, David Cotterill, Andrew Crofts and Joe Ledley are expected to feature again after impressive recent debuts under Toshack.

Wales have beaten Cyprus in both of the their previous meetings without conceding a goal.

The last meeting was back in October 1993 when Wales won 2-0 in Cardiff.

Cyprus ended their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-0 defeat to France last month.
