2211: C'est tout. Merci bien for votre superb chat ce soir. It turns out the English Premier League isn't poised for world domination after all. Oh well.

2207: And your Player of the Day is PSV striker Jefferson Farfan (8.0) whose goal gives the Dutch side the edge over Spurs. Everton keeper Tim Howard gets an honourable mention on 7.96 - which probably tells you all you need to know about his side's performance in Florence. Spurs debutant Gilberto - subbed at half-time - is spared the dunce's hat by Werder Bremen's calamity keeper Tim Wiese on a pathetic 2.14.

2204: It'll be a different story in Eindhoven, says Spurs assistant boss Gus Poyet. Poyet also backs Gilberto, whose mistake leading to PSV's goal was the low point of a disastrous first 45 minutes for Spurs.

2203: "It's a miracle Tottenham are only 1-0 down they should really be 3 or 4 down. They were totally outplayed in the second half by PSV."

2159: FULL-TIME Tottenham 0-1 PSV
Well a bit of a shock for Juande Ramos' team I would think. Jefferson Farfan's goal gives PSV one of those priceless away goals we hear so much about. You wouldn't bet against Spurs scoring in Eindhoven - but the Dutch side are decent outfit.

2153: Robbie Keane is through on goal but can't get past the keeper from a difficult angle. Spurs have four minutes of added time in which to find an equaliser.

2153: FULL-TIME Bolton 1-1 Sporting
Bolton's chances don't look good after Simon Vukcevic's second-half goal for Sporting.

2151: Relief for Spurs as Paul Robinson's punches a long-range shot straight to Jan Kronkamp and he heads it over the Spurs keeper's head and into the net - but the PSV defender is offside.

2150: Jamie O'Hara's volley spins narrowly wide as Spurs surge foward in search of an equaliser.

2149: FULL-TIME Rangers 2-0 Werder Bremen
A great win for Rangers and deserved too - albeit thanks to a couple of howlers from the unfortunate Tim Wiese.

2146: Only a few minutes to go at the Reebok and Ibrox. About eight more remaining at White Hart Lane.

2143: Unbelievable. Lee McCulloch dinks the ball over the keeper and looks certain to score a third Rangers goal but Naldo comes in with a last-ditch tackle to deny him.

2140: A brilliant save from Paul Robinson keeps Spurs in the hunt at White Hart Lane, the keeper tipping Jefferson Farfan's stinging shot round the post.

2139: Spurs go for broke by bringing Adel Taarabt on for defender Ledley King. At the Reebok, Bolton's Matt Taylor heads straight at Sporting keeper Rui Patricio from six yards out.

2138: FULL-TIME Fiorentina 2-0 Everton
Everton beaten by the better side. End of.

2135: "Everton look like they are trying to set a world record for misplaced passes."
Anon via text on 81111

2134: Into four minutes of added time in Florence. Things would look a whole lot brighter for Everton if they could snatch an away goal.

2133: Rangers keeper Allan McGregor shows his opposite number how it's done by hanging onto a swerving shot. Meanwhile at White Hart Lane, Pascal Chimbonda heads over at the far post from Dimitar Berbatov's cross.

2132: "I predicted final Bayern-Fiorentina and everything progressing according to plan..."
ypsylon on 606

2129: GOAL Bolton 1-1 Sporting
Simon Vukcevic equalises with a left-footed thunderbolt for Sporting, only minutes after striking Bolton's crossbar.

2128: A blow for Spurs as Jermaine Jenas is stretchered off with an ankle injury. Tom Huddlestone is on.

2127: Werder Bremen defender Naldo is fortunate to escape a second booking for kneeing Barry Ferguson in the back.

2125: GOAL Fiorentina 2-0 Everton
Lovely goal. Martin Jorgenson brilliantly flicks Mario Santana's cross back to Riccardo Montolivo, who volleys low into the corner.

2117: Andy Johnson is on for Tony Hibbert as Everton go 4-4-2 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

2116: "Re 2106: Poor Wiese. Give him a break and mention that before the howler in Turin, he played a blinder to keep Werder in the game!!"
Calum via text on 81111

2113: GOAL Fiorentina 1-0 Everton
Riccardo Montolivo's shot is blocked but the ball eventually comes to Zdravko Kuzmanovic who powers home a low shot even Tim Howard can't stop. A deserved lead for the hosts, you have to say.

2112: Matt Taylor hits the bar with a header for Bolton after a flick-on from Kevin Davies.

2110: Spurs are under way again in the second half. Someone texted in to say this is the worst Spurs performance they've seen in months. Guessing they didn't see the 4-1 drubbing by Birmingham then.

2107: Gilberto will have plenty of time to ponder his first 45 minutes in a Spurs shirt. He's been replaced by Jamie O'Hara at half-time.

2106: Tim Wiese does love a howler. The keeper went to take a routine catch in a 2006 Champions League tie against Juventus, dropped it and allowed Emerson to score. The goal - shortly before full-time - allowed Juve to progress to the quarter-finals.

2103: Tim Howard makes two fine saves to keep Everton on level terms, first from Christian Vieri's right-foot drive and then, brilliantly, to tip away Zdravko Kuzmanovic's 20-yard screamer.

2102: GOAL Rangers 2-0 Werder Bremen
This Tim Wiese is keeping us all entertained isn't he? The keeper allows Daniel Cousin's shot to squirm out of his grasp and Steven Davis taps in.

Oh dear. Gilberto is suffering on debut according to your votes on player-rater - the poor fella's on 2.71 (and your match correspondent reckons that's about on the money). PSV's Jefferson Farfan - who has been superb - and Ibrahim Afellay lead the way on 7.3 and 7.5 respectively.

Charlie Adam is top of the (Player Rater) pops for Rangers with an easy-to-remember 7.77. But there's more bad news for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese after his howler gifted Rangers the lead - he's only got 3.25. And that's quite generous.

Gavin McCann is Bolton's top performer on the player rater with 8.00 while Sporting Lisbon pair Joao Moutinho and Simon Vukcevic also have 8.00.

2053: HALF-TIME Tottenham 0-1 PSV
Jefferson Farfan's goal puts PSV ahead at half-time after a horrible error from debutant Gilberto.

2051: Almost the goal of the century from Robbie Keane. I exaggerate obviously but it was an excellent effort. Keane controls Paul Robinson's long kick, beats one defender and holds off the other before getting his shot away - well saved by PSV keeper Heurelho Gomez.

2050: The game in Florence is back under way in the second half.

Tim Howard's efforts in keeping the game goalless in Florence have found favour with users of Player Rater. He leads the way at half-time with 7.89. But fear not, Phil Jagielka fans. He's doing just fine with 7.33.

2047: HALF-TIME Bolton 1-0 Sporting
Gavin McCann goes close with a volley shortly before the half-time whistle at the Reebok. McCann's goal gives Bolton the advantage.

2045: HALF-TIME Rangers 1-0 Werder Bremen
And that howler from Wiese means Rangers have a deserved lead at half-time.

2044: GOAL Rangers 1-0 Werder Bremen
Werder keeper Tim Wiese looks to have Daniel Cousin's swerving shot covered but he punches it into the air... and it drops into the goal. Absolute horror. Much guffawing in the office at that one.

2040: GOAL Tottenham 0-1 PSV
Tottenham debutant Gilberto is caught dithering in defence. Jefferson Farfan nicks the ball away and sidefoots into the corner.

2038: Bolton are unbeaten at home in Europe - despite never scoring more than two goals in any of those 16 games. They average barely a goal a game in European competition. I suppose what I'm saying is, this might be as good as it gets at the Reebok.

2033: Rangers go close again and it's that man Charlie Adam, curling a free-kick narrowly over.

2032: HALF-TIME Fiorentina 0-0 Everton
Everton survive a torrid first-half in snowy Florence.

2031: Now, come on everyone, let's not be mean about Bolton. They really are ahead against Sporting. I did not make that up.

2028: Everton keeper Tim Howard comes to his side's rescue again at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Christian Vieri looks certain to score from Pablo Osvaldo's pass but Howard sticks out a leg to deflect it behind for a corner.

2026: GOAL Bolton 1-0 Sporting
Your wish, Fifecanary, is my command - although I hasten to add it's a very real goal. Gavin McCann - only playing after Kevin Nolan failed a late fitness test - calmly sidefoots home to put Bolton ahead.

2026: "I want GOALS! If I'm sitting here wasting time the very least is that something could happen. Caroline, please make something up."
Fifecanary on 606

2025: PSV striker Jefferson Farfan has the first shot on goal at White Hart Lane but it's Tottenham who have made the brighter start.

2023: Everton are very much still second best at Fiorentina - who by the way have Giampaolo Pazzini on the bench, the man who scored the first hat-trick at the new Wembley for Italy's Under-21s.

2021: Werder Bremen striker Markus Rosenberg lets fly from 25 yards but Alan McGregor plucks it out of the air before it hits the top corner. Great save.

2020: Fabio and Psycho are watching the game at White Hart Lane together. I'd love to be a party to their conversations...

2015: Sporting keeper Rui Patricio is fortunate to stay on the pitch after racing out of his goal and clattering into Heidar Helguson, handling the ball in the process.

2012: Cheeky Charlie Adam... The Rangers man spots Werder keeper Tim Wiese off his line and tries a lob from the halfway line. It lands in the crowd.

2010: "Tim Howard's keeping this game level, he's playing brilliantly."
onejolylescott on 606

2007: The back-slapping is over at White Hart Lane and we're up and running.

2002: The two 2000 GMT kick-offs are now under way - while at White Hart Lane, they're parading the Carling Cup in front of the home fans.

2001: What a start for Rangers... well, nearly... Charlie Adam's fierce volley is beaten away by Werder keeper Tim Wiese.

1958: Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson receives an award before kick-off as he becomes the Scottish player with the most appearances in Uefa club competition. He surpasses former Dundee United defender David Narey's record of 76.

1956: Some breaking team news from the Reebok... Jussi Jaaskelainen injured himself in the warm-up so Ali Al Habsi takes his place in goal.

1952: Bayern Munich take just the five away goals into the second leg of their tie against Anderlecht, Hamit Altintop, Luca Toni, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose and Franck Ribery bagging the goals.

1950: This is a bad start for Everton. Phil Neville fails to track Manuel Pasqual's overlapping run but Tim Howard collects the cross.

1947: Bright start from the hosts as Pablo Osvaldo tries a shot from just outside the box but Joseph Yobo gets in the way.

1945: Snow is falling in Florence as the game kicks off between Fiorentina and Everton.

1943: TEAM NEWS Tottenham v PSV
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos recalls his big guns following the 4-1 weekend thrashing at Birmingham, drafting Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane and Brazilian debutant Gilberto into his side to face PSV. The Dutch giants, who are missing defender Eric Addo through injury, bring in Danny Koevermans, Jason Culina and Edison Mendez at the expense of Danko Lazovic, Otman Bakkal and Balazs Dzsudzsak.

1941: "Speaking of EastEnders, I spotted Gita in Canary Wharf today. No sign of Sanjay, but it was market hours. Come on you Spurs."
Dave, E14, via text on 81111

1937: "If we are good enough with the ball, I think we've got a great chance. The key, though, is not to concede."
Tottenham assistant boss Gus Poyet

1930: TEAM NEWS Bolton v Sporting
Bolton captain Kevin Nolan has failed a late fitness test and misses out with a back injury. His place goes to Gavin McCann while Andy O'Brien takes over the captaincy duties. Heidar Helguson wins only his third start of the season, partnering Kevin Davies up front. El-Hadji Diouf is suspended, while Grzegorz Raziak, Gretar Steinsson and Tamir Cohen are ineligible. Sporting are without leading scorer Liedson due to a thigh injury but Joao Moutinho has been passed fit despite being taken ill at the team hotel on Wednesday.

1929: TEAM NEWS Rangers v Werder Bremen
Rangers bring in Sasa Papac for Steven Whittaker and Brahim Hemdani for Chris Burke, while Daniel Cousin gets the nod up front ahead of Kris Boyd. Werder Bremen bring in Diego, who is serving a domestic ban, but striker Hugo Almeida is only fit enough for the bench.

1927: "My Mum has 'stolen' the TV to watch Eastenders and Waterloo Road, so now I'm stuck with CC'S text commentary..."
ALAN6191 on 606

Waddya mean? Stuck with my commentary?!

1925: "Re 1910: Caroline, if I were you, I would give the Alan Brazil joke back to your colleague :)"
JohnB via text on 81111

1922: Here's Spurs boss Juande Ramos laying down the law ahead of tonight's game: "They have three months to show their strengths. There are many minutes on the pitch and if they show they are capable of playing for this club in that time then they will stay."

1921: "With King and Woodgate at the back, I am positive of a Spurs win!"
Sam, Notts, via text on 81111

1918: "Come on the Mighty Gers, do Scotland proud and let's have Jockanese participation for another round. Will be tough, but I fancy that we can take a 1-0 win to Germany!"
oldmanmackie on 606

1915: TEAM NEWS Fiorentina v Everton
Everton name the same side that started against Portsmouth on Sunday, midfielder Mikel Arteta only fit enough for a place on the bench after groin trouble. Fiorentina striker Christian Vieri plays from the start, but former Everton defender Per Kroldrup is a substitute.

1910: Since you've been so good, I've got a bit of early team news for you. Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Gilberto all start for Tottenham - the latter making his debut and becoming the first Brazilian to play for Spurs. Well, since Alan Brazil anyway. (Should point out I stole that joke from my colleague)

1904: Uefa Cup the poor relation to the Champions League? Bah, get out of town. Not round here it's not.
