Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina celebrates victory
The saves that Reina made were good saves and he is the hero

Penalty shoot-outs are always dramatic, but I don't think we expected it to finish like that.

That apart, were we surprised? No.

It was a scrappy game in the main and the tension got to everybody.

It was a real tactical battle and that's why people prefer to watch Manchester United, who seem to throw tactics out of the window.

I was disappointed in Didier Drogba and no attackers or midfield players made their mark on the game.

I can only think of Pepe Reina saving from Drogba in the first half, and even though Chelsea had their moments, they created next to nothing.

Liverpool created a little bit more. Not a lot, but a bit.

Chelsea spoiled things for the first 10 minutes when they should have tried to take Liverpool by surprise.

It was scrappy and the football was not free-flowing. Both teams were most concerned with pumping the ball forward.

But the pattern of the game did not surprise me, with both teams tonking the ball forward at every given opportunity.

There were very tired legs out there in the last 15 minutes of extra-time and there were people who were looking for the penalty shoot-out.

The saves that Reina made were good saves, have no doubt about that, and he is the hero.

And it was a fantastic penalty from Dirk Kuyt to finish it off.

Rafael Benitez has taken Liverpool to another final and they have a chance to win it for the sixth time.

Chelsea already have the Carling Cup and now they have to focus on the FA Cup.

I wouldn't want to offer a defence for them, but their season has been somewhat chequered by injuries and knocks and it has caught up with them in these last two or three games.

This defeat will be a tremendous disappointment for them.
