Benitez expects test from Chelsea

Benitez is looking forward to the semi-final with Chelsea
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez knows his side face a tough test against Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Reds were not at their best as they beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at Anfield to progress with a 4-0 aggregate win.

And Benitez said: "It will be really difficult because Chelsea are a very good team. But we know that if we play to our level then we can beat them.

"It may be an advantage to play the first leg at Stamford Bridge - but Chelsea are a good team playing away."

The Reds made sure of reaching the last four thanks to Peter Crouch's goal but Benitez admitted his side were below par.

It was a strange game. All the lads were up for it. If it had stayed 0-0, I am sure you would have seen more urgency

"It wasn't much of a spectacle but we did what we had to do," the Liverpool boss said. "It was a strange game but nevertheless all the lads were up for it.

"We were controlling it and that was the idea to score a goal and finish the game.

"The second half was better for us and after the sending off it was easy."

PSV coach Ronald Koeman agreed that Marcellis' red card ended any hope for his side.

"We did better than last week," said the former Dutch international defender.

"We gave nothing away to Liverpool. The sending-off was an incredible decision. I told him (Marcellis) don't be disappointed because you did fantastic.

"I don't understand the referee, it was a yellow card but not a red one. However, Liverpool were too strong for us over the two games."

A jubilant Crouch added: "We did a job, got the result.

"We did most of the work in the first leg obviously and it was just a case of seeing it out, and that is what we did well.

"It was a strange game. All the lads were up for it. If it had stayed 0-0, I am sure you would have seen more urgency."

A boyhood Chelsea fan, Crouch is relishing the tie against the Blues - a repeat of the 2005 semi-final - and said: "It is going to be a special occasion.

"We've had that tie before and hopefully we'll have the same outcome. I won the FA Cup last year and hopefully can go one better this year."
