Newcastle 2-0 ZTS Dubnica
Alan Shearer
Alan Shearer's second-half brace gave Newcastle a 2-0 win over ZTS Dubnica and wrapped up a 5-1 aggregate win in their Intertoto Cup quarter-final.

Both goals came from powerful headers - the first from James Milner's corner, the second a Stephen Carr cross.

Shearer and Milner had both gone close in the first half, with Dubnica keeper Dusan Pernis making some good stops.

Newcastle now face Deportivo La Coruna in their two-legged semi-final, with the first leg on 27 July.

Jermaine Jenas had joined Lee Bowyer in the starting line-up against the Slovenian side, despite the pair being linked with moves away from St James' Park.

The home side were well on top early on but Dubnica came back into things either side of the break.

The visitors' captain Marian Zimen got on the end of a neat one-two to race clear - only to be denied by a fine challenge from Steven Taylor.

Kiska, easily Dubnica's most dangerous player, stole forward on the hour mark and finished his run with a rising shot that Shay Given tipped over.

But Newcastle responded with a shot from Charles N'Zogbia that fizzed wide and again went close when Bowyer just failed to meet Milner's cross.

Shearer's 72nd-minute opener ended any faint hopes Dubnica had of a comeback - and there was more to come.

The Newcastle skipper headed against the bar from Martin Brittain's cross, before sealing victory with his second late on.

Jenas also hit the underside of the bar with a thumping 25-yard free-kick as the Magpies dominated.
