Mourinho queries Liverpool goal

Jose Mourinho claimed the "best side lost" after his Chelsea side went out of the Champions League at Anfield.

And he questioned the officials for deciding the ball had definitely crossed the line xvfor Liverpool's goal.

"The linesman scored the goal. No-one knows if that shot went over the line and you must be 100%," said Mourinho.

"But they are in the final and from my heart I hope they win it. The night belongs to them and I don't want to

criticise them."

Mourinho did go on to the field after the game to shake the hands of all the Reds players, congratulating them while also backing his own team despite their exit from the competition.

"They fought, fought, fought, the whole time over the two legs and I have to give Liverpool a lot of credit for that.

"But I'm proud of my players, they gave everything they had."

Chelsea had beaten Liverpool in their three previous encounters this season prior to the semi-final.

But Mourinho recognised the role Liverpool fans played in this match.

"I felt the power of Anfield, it was magnificent," he continued.

"I felt it didn't interfere with my players but maybe it interfered with other people and maybe it interfered with the result.

"But you should ask the linesman why he gave a goal.

"The best team lost. After they scored only one team played, the other one just defended for the whole game.

"This was a copy of the Carling Cup final in Cardiff, where Liverpool scored early and then defended.

"Then, they scored a fantastic goal to go in front, but this time we don't know if it went in.

"We are very sad, but you must understand what football is. They scored and we didn't so they go through."
