Anderlecht expect to lose Kompany

Anderlecht coach Frank Vercauteren believes Vincent Kompany, a reported Manchester United and Chelsea target, will leave the club in the next year.

Juventus are also believed to be on the trail of the highly-rated 19-year-old central defender.

"I don't think he will stay a long time at Anderlecht - maybe six months or a year but I don't think much longer than that," Vercauteren told BBC Sport.

"His ambition is to play in a big team and he is waiting for that moment."

Kompany, who has been recently sidelined because of a back injury, has developed through the Anderlecht ranks and his current deal with the club runs until 2010.

He became a Belgium international aged 17 and was voted his country's Player of the Year by his fellow professionals last season.

Vercauteren added: "No doubt he has the potential to play in England.

"I was not convinced last year he was ready for it. He has had this injury but in a few months he will be able to take the step and move onto another level.

"Of course he will have to adapt a few things and improve like always when you change country and adapt from one style and one way of working to another.

"He has to leave Anderlecht for a big club and not, with all respect, to a smaller team in a better league.

"A lot of people will be looking at him because when you spend a lot of money expectations are so high.

"Its sometimes difficult to live up to them but I think he will be able to."
