York 1-2 Rochdale

Rochdale maintained their winning run with an impressive victory at York in a high quality match which saw both sides reduced to 10 men in the second half.

City defender Stuart Wise and Rochdale striker Paul Connor received their marching orders in the 70th minute for a touchline fracas in a game containing few fouls but plenty of skill.

The difference between the sides proved to be clinical finishing and the crosses of Rochdale defender Michael Simpkins.

The left-back created the opener after 15 minutes with a pinpoint cross which Kevin Townson, making his first start of the season, headed home from six yards.

Soon after Simpkins delivered again with a telling cross from the left flank and Leo Bertos atoned for an earlier miss with a sweet half-volley from close range.

Arron Wilford - making his City debut - scored a superb goal in the 73rd minute when he shot low into the bottom corner, but it was not enough for the hosts.

York: Ovendale, Hope, Brass, Wise, Downes, Bullock, Ward, Dunning, Merris, Nogan, George. Subs: Cooper, Wilford, Wood, Brackstone, Porter.

Rochdale: Gilks, Evans, Grand, Burgess, Simpkins, Bertos, Betts, McClare, Doughty, Connor, Townson. Subs: Edwards, Griffiths, Beech, McCourt, Duffy.
