Yeovil   2 - 0   Brentford

Yeovil 2-0 Brentford

Yeovil won for the first time since the opening day of the season and stretched Brentford's winless run to seven games.

Skipper Craig Alcock headed the hosts' in front from Andy Welsh's corner.

Former Brentford player Gavin Tomlin set up the second - crossing for Welsh to slot the ball home before Alcock was denied a third by a Nicky Bull save.

Brentford offered little but came close to pulling one back when Sam Wood hit the post from 25 yards before Bull stopped Davies making it 3-0 late on.

Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset:

"I'm very happy, I said to my players beforehand that if we keep a clean sheet today then we'll win the game, I was proved right in that.

"Brentford are a good side, we contained them well and I felt that we could have had maybe more than two goals today.

"One of the things I am as a young manager is very confident and I know that if it's not going for you then you need to keep working hard and stick to your basic principles.

"I felt today we came out on top because of that philosophy."

Brentford manager Andy Scott told BBC London 94.9:

"It's clearly not good enough. We appreciate the fans making the effort to come down here and we haven't done them justice today.

"We didn't start at the tempo that I want my teams to play. We did it in spells in the second half and we kept pressure on them and had a few good chances but we weren't good enough all over the pitch.

"The players have been told in no uncertain terms that it's going to be a long, hard season if we continue to approach games in that manner."
