Oldham 1-1 QPR

Richard Langley hit a second-half equaliser at Boundary Park to give QPR the edge in their Second Division play-off semi-final against Oldham.

Oldham took the lead in a physical first half when veteran winger David Eyres fired a low free-kick past Rangers keeper Chris Day in the 29th minute.

But the visitors hit back just two minutes after the break when Tommy Williams broke down the left and crossed for Langley to sidefoot home.

Paul Murray twice wasted chances to give Oldham a lead to take to Loftus Road, but Rangers suffered a late blow when Langley was sent off for two bookable offences.

Rangers started the brighter and coped well with Oldham's direct approach.

Paul Furlong headed over the bar for the visitors and Dan Shittu should have scored in the 14th minute, but his strike was deflected for a corner.

Oldham nearly capitalised on a defensive mistake from Shittu shortly afterwards and Eyres tried his luck with a 25-yard free-kick which sailed over the bar.

The Latics made the breakthrough when Wayne Andrews won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Eyres' low left-footed effort found the corner of the net.

Kevin Gallen should have equalised for QPR eight minutes before the break but his shot went wide of the post.

Gilt-edged chance

Langley made no mistake immediately after the restart, however, when he arrived unmarked at the far post to slide Williams' centre past David Miskelly.

Murray almost put one over his former club in the 57th minute when he tried to lob Day, but his shot landed on the top of the net.

And Murray missed a gilt-edged chance five minutes later when he fired over the bar from six yards with only Day to beat.

QPR's cause was not helped when Langley was red-carded in the 80th minute for his second booking after lashing out at Eyres.

But the hosts could not make their numerical advantage count with Andrews shooting narrowly wide of the target a minute from time.
