Moyes ponders Basham lay-off
Steve Basham
Steve Basham broke his leg in a tackle with Jason Koumas
Preston manager David Moyes believes a run of form will be the best tonic for broken leg victim Steve Basham.

The striker suffered an horrific injury following a 50-50 challenge with Jason Koumas having earlier scored the winner against Tranmere.

Basham now faces a lengthy lay-off and Moyes revealed his players were distraught that Basham had broken his leg.

"I was pleased he scored. He has had to work very hard to come through and it's fitting he scored the goal," he said.

"We were hoping he was coming back to a little bit of form. Hopefully the players will regroup and get on with the task. It's part of football.

"It has happened to many players in many clubs so life does go on. I'm sure Steve will expect that."

Regarding the tackle that led to Basham's injury, Rovers boss John Aldridge insisted: "There is no way Jason went in with any malice.

"He is a good player, it's a horrible thing for anyone to break their leg, it's awful."
