Billy Jones rescued a dramatic late point for Preston as promotion-pushing Nottingham Forest were held to a draw.

With Forest on the brink of an unlikely late win following Chris Cohen's 92nd-minute goal, Jones rose to head home a Keith Treacy cross in the 96th minute.

Barry Nicholson had earlier headed Preston in front from a Treacy centre.

Liverpool loanee Paul Konchesky equalised on 54 minutes before Cohen briefly put the home side ahead in stoppage time from 35 yards.

Despite Jones's dramatic late intervention, Preston remain five points adrift at the foot of the Championship table and still awaiting their first win under boss Phil Brown.

Yet, after Saturday's encouraging draw with leaders QPR, a point at the City Ground, where Forest had enjoyed four consecutive victories and not lost a regular-season match since September 2009, was another important boost for North End.

Konchesky threatened with an early volley, but Preston served notice of their intentions when Treacy drilled just wide from 25 yards.

It was Treacy who fashioned the breakthrough for Nicholson on 16 minutes, crossing for the midfielder to score with a firm header from 12 yards out.

The home side should have equalised on the half hour, but Paul Anderson volleyed wide from Konchesky's left-wing cross.

Nine minutes after the break, Konchesky took matters into his own hands by drilling home from 12 yards out.

Opportunities remained at a premium until the second minute of stoppage time, when Cohen blasted home a right-footed shot from all of 35 yards.

But four minutes later came Jones's header, earning Preston a potentially vital late point.
