Plymouth 1-2 Wigan
Jason Roberts' brace against Plymouth helped Wigan stay in command at the top of the Championship table.

After a goalless first half, the former West Brom striker gave his side the advantage with a cool finish in the 54th minute.

He doubled the lead with 20 minutes left, slotting home from close range after good work from Nathan Ellington.

Stevie Crawford halved the deficit with a header after 77 minutes but Wigan easily held on for victory.

  • Plymouth boss Bobby Williamson
"Credit to our guys. We kept battling on, and the fans kept encouraging us.

"Unfortunately we could not reward them with a point, or three points for that matter.

"I think Wigan were fortunate with their second goal and we had a lot of pressure late on in the game."

  • Wigan boss Paul Jewell

"I thought Jason did well to get his two goals.

"It is easy for us to sit here and say he made a terrible miss in the first half - but he more than made up for it by getting two goals in the second.

"People talk about Nathan's pace, but he showed that he can also head the ball really well. I thought he did really well to set up Jason's first goal."
