Watford 1-2 Ipswich

Ipswich came back from a goal down to secure their first away win of the season at the expense of struggling Watford.

Scott Fitzgerald had given the home side the lead but Shefki Kuqi equalised for the visitors and Jim Magilton scored a late Ipswich winner.

Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium during a cagey start but Alun Armstrong did go close for Ipswich when he had a shot blocked by full-back Paul Robinson.

With the home side in the ascendancy as half-time neared, Ipswich keeper Kelvin Davis had to be at his best to keep out two Fitzgerald efforts.

Paul Devlin also had a shot cleared off the line for Watford by Matthew Richards.

Ipswich brought on new loan signing Kuqi and striker Pablo Counago in an attempt to boost their attacking options.

Instead, they immediately found themselves a goal down after just four minutes of the second half.

Fitzgerald, in his first league start of the season, and fed by Lee Cook, took advantage of Town's failure to clear a Neil Ardley corner to give Lewington's side the lead as the game finally came to life.

However, Ipswich boss Joe Royle did not have to wait long before his half-time changes were vindicated.

Kuqi reacted quicker than Hornets keeper Alec Chamberlain to a Magilton long ball and poked under the veteran keeper to equalise after just six minutes of his Ipswich debut.

Buoyed by doubling their away goals tally for the season, Ipswich began to pile forward in search of an elusive away win.

Counago, who scored 21 times last season, came close to giving Town the lead when his drilled shot was cleared by Kelly, while Finnish striker Kuqi headed wide and also pushed a shot wide.

But the visitors pressure finally paid off with eight minutes on the clock.

Ipswich captain Magilton received a Counago pass, spotted Chamberlain off his line and sent a perfect chip over the 39-year-old to give the Tractor Boys three points.
