Coventry 2-4 Ipswich
Pablo Counago takes on the Coventry defence

Four goals in 17 spectacular second-half minutes saw Ipswich rescue their play-off hopes and leave free-falling Coventry without a win in seven games.

Strikers Marcus Bent and Pablo Counago scored twice each after Matt Jansen and Dean Gordon had given the hosts an apparently comfortable half-time cushion.

Coventry started the brighter and deservedly took the lead after 23 minutes following a frantic scramble in the Ipswich penalty area.

Jay Bothroyd's cross created havoc, David Pipe slammed a shot against the crossbar and Jansen squeezed the rebound over the line despite the best efforts of keeper Andy Marshall.

Ipswich's attempts to draw level almost bore fruit when Tommy Miller hit the post from the centre of the area and Counago saw a 20-yard shot saved by Gary Montgomery.

But with half-time approaching Coventry struck again when Craig Pead skipped past Richard Naylor on the right and pulled the ball back for defender Gordon to ram home his first goal of the season.

Goal rush

The game's turning point arrived moments after the restart when a Marshall parry prevented Bothroyd putting Coventry three up.

And five minutes later an outrageous slice of fortune triggered the Ipswich goal rush.

Martijn Reuser's fierce free-kick struck Bent and left Montgomery helpless as the ball ballooned into the net.

Ipswich's 55th-minute equaliser could hardly have been more straightforward, Bent flicking on Marshall's long kick and Counago stroking a shot into the corner.

Counago then stuck out a boot to meet Miller's cross-shot on 65 minutes, and Bent collected Jim Magilton's long clearance three minutes later to seal the win.
