Weymouth boss Martyn Rogers sends rallying call to fans

Weymouth boss Martyn Rogers has urged fans to get behind the club and help them escape their poor run of form.

Rogers, 55, was appointed manager of a Weymouth side who have lost their last four games to sit bottom of the Zamaretto League Premier Division.

"The crowd can play a big part in the resurrection of this club and we need them now more than ever.

"Between now and the end of this season we need every Terras fan to come and support us," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Rogers, who resigned as Tiverton Town boss in May after 20 years in charge, was offered a managerial position at Weymouth seven years ago by then chairman Ian Ridley.

"I did turn down the job back then. I decided against it for better reasons and maybe I should have taken over when Ian Ridley was chairman," he said.

"But I've had a nice break since being Tiverton Town boss and I'm now recharged and ready to go.

"I met with the chairman on Saturday and we talked over what he wanted and I think I'm the right man to do the job for him."

Rogers was at the Wessex stadium on Saturday to witness his side's 2-1 defeat to Leamington but the ex-Bristol City and Exeter player is confident he can turn Weymouth's fortunes around.

"We want to pull away from the bottom of the table and get this club out of the predicament they are in.

"I'm looking to get Weymouth back to where they should be, in the Conference South and beyond.

"It's going to be a tough ask but one I am looking forward to tackling."
