Luton Town 5-0 York City

Michael Ingham
Michael Ingham was replaced in goal first by Chris Smith, then Greg Young

Luton Town mercilessly destroyed nine-man York as they cashed in on visiting keeper Michael Ingham's early red card.

Ingham's dismissal, after bringing down Claude Gnakpa, sparked the first goal, fired by Andy Drury from the free-kick.

With no recognised substitute keeper to face, two quick headers from Gnakpa and Lloyd Owusu and Zdenek Kroca's close-range strike made it 4-0 at the break.

Sub Taiwo Atieno headed the Hatters' fifth to wrap it up on 66 minutes before Jon Smith also saw red late on.

He was sent off for a second bookable offence shortly before a challenge by Danny Racchi saw Daniel Gleeson stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle as Luton ended the game with 10 men, having used all their substitutes.

Despite one of their biggest wins of the season, stretching their unbeaten Blue Square Bet Premier run to seven games, Luton stay third - two points behind new leaders Crawley.

York, unbeaten in seven league games, paid the price for going into the game with no keeper on the bench when Ingham was sent off for bringing down Gnakpa when he was clean through.

Captain Chris Smith took over, but his first job was to pick the ball out of the net when Drury converted the resulting free-kick.

Gnakpa then headed home a Matthew Barnes-Homer cross before debutant Owusu headed in Drury's corner from six yards five minutes later.

Czech defender Kroca made it 4-0 in first-half injury-time with a spectacular volley from a Drury free-kick.

Having shipped four first-half goals, Smith then returned to the visitors' defence at half-time, being replaced between the sticks by first-half substitute Greg Young.

And Luton only managed one after the break when Atieno nodded home Drury's centre just moments after coming on for Owusu.
