Redditch United admit financial problems

Only 158 supporters turned up for Redditch United's last home game

Redditch chairman Ken Rae says United are "at a financial crossroads" and that they need around £30,000 to secure their short-term future.

The Reds have played only seven home games this season and Rae says this has impacted on their cash-flow.

He said: "We've been unable to meet the payment plans agreed with some of our creditors and they want that resolved.

"We need the support of the community or we could find ourselves in trouble over the next few weeks."

Redditch have moved to ease their problems with the appointment of Brian Knight as an associate commercial director.

Knight has a long-standing working relationship with the club while he also runs his own catering firm.

Rae feels the appointment will help him and the board stabilise the Blue Square Bet North club and help revive their fortunes.

"Brian is a successful local businessman in his own right and he has a lot to offer so he will be vital to the future of the club," he said.

It is now time for others to come to the fore and to offer help to secure the future of the club

"It is obvious just how passionate he is about Redditch United and its future.

"He has already brought some great ideas to the table which could make a huge difference to us going forward," he added.

Rae has praised the efforts of those involved in the running of the club but says the time has come when they can no longer manage on their own.

"I have a small but totally committed staff at the club who all work tirelessly as volunteers," he said.

"Not a single one of them receives a penny payment for the work they do and many of them like myself have put their own hard-earned money in to the club.

"But they do have their own bills to pay and some of them also have young families to support.

"It is now time for others to come to the fore and to offer help to secure the future of the club," he added.

The Redditch board plans to hold a fans forum at Valley Stadium on Monday where they will hold an open discussion over the best way out of their immediate financial problems.
