Hessenthaler keen on Watford job

Hessenthaler has said he would like to one day return to league management

Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler has admitted he would be interested in a return to Championship side Watford.

His former club are without a manager after Brendan Rodgers left for Reading.

The 43-year-old former Gillingham player-manager has achieved back-to-back promotions, taking his non-league side up to Conference South.

"Fans aren't silly, they know if there was an approach, which there hasn't been yet, then of course I'd be interested," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"I've never made it a secret that I'd like to go back into league management.

"But I'm keeping focused on pre-season training with Dover and looking forward to the new season."

Hessenthaler began his career in non-league football, and turned professional when he joined Watford, aged 26, in 1991.

He made 195 appearances before moving to Gillingham in 1996, where he spent the next 10 years as player and player-manager.
