Scarborough Athletic are promoted

Scarborough Athletic

Scarborough Athletic have been promoted to the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League.

They won 2-1 at Teversal to secure the points they needed just two years after the club was formed.

Scarborough Athletic came into existence in the summer of 2007 after the town's former club folded because of financial problems.

Athletic now need just four more points to take the NCEL First Division title and be promoted as champions.

The club have won 25, drawn four and lost just two of the 31 league games they have played this season and are the first club in steps 1-6 in the non-league pyramid to win promotion.

It is the first time a senior Scarborough side have won a promotion since the former club won the Conference in 1987 to reach the Football League.
