Cambridge City contest relegation

Cambridge City have 14 days to launch an appeal to the Football Association over their enforced demotion from the Blue Square South.

The Conference told City on Tuesday they plan to demote them after Milton Road failed an inspection in March.

All Blue Square South stadiums must achieve an FA 'Category B' rating.

City, who finished 14th in the table, fell short of the rating due to a lack of terracing behind both goals and inadequate turnstile facilities.

Lilywhite fans' director Rab Crangle said: "The key issue is the appeal to the FA and we're very confident we have a good case and we'll get a good hearing.

"All of this is entirely expected and it's exactly where we thought we were going to be."

Crangle denies the club are being made an example of.

"I think there was almost unanimous sympathy from the Conference board members regarding our position, but it was simply a case that they felt their hands were tied.

"The FA rules [concerning stadiums] applied here so they felt they had no discretion in this matter so that's why we will end up going to the FA."

The club will base their appeal around the uncertainty created by last year's High Court dispute over the ownership of the ground that eventually ruled in the club's favour.

Crangle said: "We'll be going to the FA this week and in everyone's interest we ask for that appeal to heard as quickly as possible."
