Mali coach Stephen Keshi seeks new job after Mali exit

Stephen Keshi ponders his future after Mali crash out of the Nations Cup

Mali coach Stephen Keshi has announced that he is open to new job offers, following his team's elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mali were knocked out on Monday, despite their 3-1 victory over Malawi.

Keshi said after the game that he had not been given a free hand to select his squad, hinting at interference from the Malian football federation (FMF).

The Nigerian coach was appointed head of Mali's national team, the Eagles, in April 2008 on a two-year deal.

Speaking at the press conference, Keshi said he was not allowed to pick his preferred squad for the game against Algeria.

"They [FMF] don't give you space," he said.

"They don't give you room to do your job."

Keshi went on to say that he is open to job offers from anywhere, an indication that his time in charge of Mali is up.

Neither side has yet confirmed whether he will be leaving his current post, however.

"I'm very open to any offer that comes", he said.

Meanwhile striker Freddie Kanoute says he hasn't made up his mind about his own future with the Mali team.

There has been speculation that he would retire from international football after this tournament, but he has refused to confirm that saying that he is still trying to come to terms with their elimination from the Nations Cup.

"Right now I'm just thinking about this elimination," Kanoute said.

"I'm not thinking about what I'm going to do."

But the 33-year-old says he thinks it may be time for younger players to take over.

"I think now, the place is for the youngsters," Kanoute said.

"I've done my bit in the national team, but I don't know right now."
