Etoile and Heartland grab wins

Nigeria's Heartland and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia both won 2-0 at home in Group B of the African Champions league on Saturday.

Heartland's 2-0 win over visitors TP Mazembe of the DR Congo means they are through to the semi-finals.

A brace of first half goals within the space of three minutes gave the Nigerians the lead they needed to advance.

John Owoeri broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, and just 3 minutes later Uche Agba added another.

TP Mazembe had their chances but poor finishing let them down.

Heartland did well to hold onto their lead given that they were reduced to ten men early in the second half.

Heartland central defender Emmanuel Olowo was sent off after a 2nd yellow card for a terrible tackle.

John Owoeri should have made it 3-0 in the closing minutes but his shot hit the upright.

Former champions Etoile du Sahel kept alive their chances of reaching the last four with a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe's Monomotapa.

Mossaab Sassi opened the scoring after just 12 minutes and then Cape Verde's de Gilson Silva sealed the win with a goal 11 minutes after half-time.

The defeat means that Monomotapa can no longer reach the semi-finals.

Etoile du Sahel must now beat TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi in the final group match in a week's time if they are to reach the last four, while a draw will be enough for the DR Congo side.
