Togo coach hangs in the balance
Stephen Keshi
Keshi clashed with star player Adebayor at the Nations Cup

The president of Togo's Football Federation (TFF) has refused to confirm the dismissal of national coach Stephen Keshi.

Although the TFF released a statement that was broadcast on national television and published on the country's official website, Rock Gnassingbe said no decision has been taken to sack Keshi.

"No decision has been taken yet on the case of Stephen Keshi," Gnassingbe told reporters on Tuesday.

Keshi, the former Nigeria captain, achieved the historic feat of earning Togo a ticket to this year's World Cup finals, ahead of Senegal and Zambia.

But the national team's first-round exit at the African Cup of Nations, where Keshi had a row with star player Sheyi Adebayor, had caused key TFF officials to turn against him.

German coach Otto Pfister and Bora Milutinovic, the Serbian that managed Nigeria at the 1998 World Cup finals, are among the candidates in the running to replace Keshi.

Pfister, who managed Ghana at the 1992 Nations Cup finals, has opened talks with TFF officials.

Togo have been drawn in Group G at the World Cup finals, alongside France, South Korea and Switzerland.
