Madjer replaces Luis Fernandez
Algerian legend Rabah Madjer has signed a five-month contract to take charge of Qatari club Al Rayyan.
The former African Footballer of the Year replaces Frenchman Luis Fernandez who left the team for an Israeli club.
"I am happy to take charge of Al Rayyan and I hope I can put the side back on track," Madjer told reporters in the Qatari capital Doha on Wednesday.
The new manager also revealed his intentions to sign new foreign players in January.
"We need to sign a couple of new players and one of them could be a playmaker."
The Qatari club had expressed a desire to sign Nigeria captain Jay Jay Okocha, who is coming to the end of his contract with English side Bolton Wanderers.
Madjer is a permanent resident of Qatar, where he works as a football analyst for Qatari sports channel Al Jazeera.
Al Rayyan are currently in fifth place, seven points adrift of leaders Qatar club.
Madjer's first game in charge will be against second-placed Al Sadd on Thursday.
