Lord-Kangana says the DR Congo will not prosper without foreign-based stars
Ndiwa Lord-Kangana says the DR Congo should call up more of their professionals to add more bite and drive to their World Cup campaign.

In comments that contradict coach Claude Leroy's publicly stated goal of selecting more local players in future, he told BBC Sport that foreign-based stars hold the key to success.

"My ambition is to work hard and I'm going to talk to other Congolese players in Europe to come and play for our national team," said Lord-Kangana, who is with English Premiership side Bolton Wanderers.

"Our country was the first African team to take part at the World Cup in 1974 but we've never been back since.

"My generation really wants to make it to the World Cup finals," said Lord-Kangana, who made his international debut at this year's African Cup of Nations.

The 29-year-old said he wants to see more Congolese players further their careers in some of Europe's top leagues.

"When we play against big teams like Cameroon, our local players struggle to cope because these teams have many players in Europe.

"It doesn't mean that Cameroon players are better than Congolese ones - it's because they're exposed to some of the best coaching in Europe.

"That's the reason why I think it's important to get as many of our players as possible to Europe," said Lord-Kangana, a central defender who joined Bolton at the start of the 2003/2004 season from Swedish side Djurgarden.

He was born in the DR Congo but moved to Sweden aged just seven and gained dual nationality. He appeared for his adopted country at both Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
