Uganda are keen to include England-based Joel Kitamirike in their squad for the 2006 World Cup and Nations Cup qualifier against DR Congo.

Although he played for England's U-15 team, he is eligible to play for his country of birth at full international level under new Fifa rules.

Mr Haruna Mawanda, the FA secretary-general, said they are yet to get in contact with Kitamirike but hope he could be reached in time to make the 5 June match.

The 20 year old Chelsea defender, currently on loan to first division side Brentford, left Uganda over nine years ago.

"I believe he knows a thing or two about disciplined football. He is tactically aware and will give us more options," said team coach Mike Mutebi.

Mutebi said they hope to get Kitamirike for subsequent qualifiers even if they fail to get him in time for their opening match.

Meanwhile, five overseas-based professional players - Sulaiman Tenywa, Ibrahim Sekajja, Medi Nsubuga, Nestory Kizito and Phillip Ssoziare - are expected to join the Cranes next week, in preparation for the DR Congo match.
