Undersoil heating for St Andrew's

Birmingham City have decided to install undersoil heating to avoid a repeat of last weekend's postponement of the FA Cup third round tie with Wolves.

The frozen pitch at St Andrew's caused a number of complaints from frustrated Blues supporters.

"It is important that we listen to our supporters," said Blues PLC chairman and co-owner David Sullivan.

"I promise that we are listening, and most importantly, taking action where we can."

The pledge has been added to Birmingham's 'New Year, New Start' campaign which promised measures such as a big screen for fans and a 10% reduction in season ticket prices.

"In the past we have allocated all funds to bringing in players to achieve promotion or maintain Premier League status," said Sullivan.

"But supporters want to see things happening off the pitch as well as on it, and we will find the balance needed to do this."

The work needed to install the heating will begin straight after the final home game of the season, finishing in time for the 2009/10 campaign.
