Klinsmann hails impact of Beckham

David Beckham's arrival has heralded the "big bang" that everyone in Major League Soccer hoped for, according to former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Klinsmann, who lives in California and is tipped as a future USA coach, said: "His arrival has made a huge impact.

"Suddenly, people who before had no interest about soccer are following it.

"It was a 'big bang' that everyone was hoping for and they got it. But the MLS is working hard on improving because they know they've got some way to go."

Beckham's US arrival in July created a media stir but was followed by disappointment when the England midfielder suffered two separate injuries that have left him sidelined.

"It caused a stir with the kids and with youths even though the people weren't really sure about the level of play in his club or in the league," said Klinsmann, who has been linked with a return to coaching.

Klinsmann quit as national coach following last summer's World Cup in his home nation, but has since been tipped to take over at LA Galaxy or the US national team, as well as high-profile roles in the Premiership.

His former club Tottenham have been touted as a possible destination and Klinsmann is also being linked with Chelsea following Jose Mourinho's departure this week.

Klinsmann confirmed he was eager to return to coaching, but refused to comment on rumours linking him with Stamford Bridge or White Hart Lane.
