Heskey wins Houllier praise
Emile Heskey
Heskey has scored six times in pre-season
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier was full of praise for Emile Heskey after the England striker took his pre-season tally to six in the 5-1 win over Aberdeen.

Harry Kewell grabbed the headlines as he scored his first goal for his new club, but Houllier was keen to highlight the contribution of Heskey.

"When Emile is at his best he is one of the best strikers in Europe," said Houllier.

"He is quick and powerful, can use both feet and when he turns and runs at the defender he can be unstoppable at times. His goal was brilliant.

"Harry's was a great goal made after a good pass from Michael Owen. Harry also made the pass to Emile for his goal and showed his quality."

Liverpool went behind in the first minute but quickly equalised through Danny Murphy before Heskey gave his side the lead five minutes after the break.

The England international latched on to Kewell's pass before firing home from a tight angle and Kewell's goal and two from Neil Mellor sealed a comfortable win.

Liverpool could have made it six but Florent Sinama-Pongolle missed a penalty after regular taker Murphy had offered him the opportunity to open his Reds account.

"The team spirit was great," said Houllier. "They all worked hard for each other and wanted to win.

"I like the way Danny offered the penalty to Florent because he was hoping he would score to get a confidence boost. It was a nice touch and was just a shame that the penalty was missed."
