Warne writhes in agony after injuring his shoulder

Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne may be out of action for six weeks after dislocating his shoulder during the limited-overs match against England in Melbourne.

Warne fell heavily on his right shoulder diving to stop a single off his own bowling, and writhed on the ground in agony before being stretchered off the field.

Australian physiotherapist Errol Alcott said the shoulder had been put back in, but added that he expected Warne to be out for four to six weeks.

The bowler is due to see a shoulder specialist and undergo diagnostic scans as soon as possible.

"It went in really well, so we're happy about. Now we need to just wait a little bit to see if there's any further damage," Alcott said.

"We need to establish if there's any boney injury, so we need to get some plain x-rays done on it.

"We're looking at four to six (weeks out) to start with. It might be more four than six but it depends if there's anything else injured.

"If there is something more, than we'd probably have to add on the weeks.

"Our main concern is his prior history. He's had surgery on that shoulder before so we need to have a look and see if there's perhaps further damage done to that already damaged joint."

Warne had reconstructive surgery on the same shoulder to save his career in 1998, missing several Tests as a result.

The 33-year-old bounced back through a strict fitness regime to become the second highest wicket taker in Test cricket with 491 victims to date.

But the latest setback puts his participation in the remainder of the one-day triangular series, the last two Ashes Tests and the World Cup in doubt.

Australia are due to open their World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Johannesburg on 11 February.
