Ramdin leads way in Windies draw
Tour match, Durham, day three (close): MCC 260 & 64-5 v West Indies 534-8d

Wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin hit 131 against the MCC as the tourists enjoyed some batting practice on the final day.

Ramdin, who made only 11 in total at the Headingley Test, cracked 16 fours and three sixes in his 163-ball knock.

He put on 110 with Jerome Taylor (35) before the Windies declared on 534-8, a lead of 274, with Chris Gayle and Ravi Rampaul unable to bat due to injury.

William Porterfield then edged Daren Powell's second ball and four more MCC wickets fell in the final 23 overs.

Porterfield had some joy earlier when he took a low catch at short-cover to dismiss Darren Sammy off Simon Butler's second ball of the day.

The medium pacer bowled Taylor with a straight ball in the first over after lunch, while Powell had his off-stump removed by a Mali Richards delivery.

But Ramdin was unfazed at the other end, reaching a 132-ball century before edging Ruel Brathwaite behind in the last visiting wicket to fall.

After Powell's early strike Taylor then trapped Zobi Sharif on the front foot, while a direct hit from substitute fielder Dwayne Bravo ran out Luke Evans.

Sammy had Paul Dixey caught in the gully and struck again when James Morris, one of four Durham UCCE players in the side, mistimed an on-drive.

With the MCC effectively six down as captain Sanath Jayasuriya had left for an early flight back to Sri Lanka, play was surprisingly brought to a premature conclusion with 15 overs remaining.
