I've watched this kid with great interest for five years now.

He's always had the shots, but he needed to start an innings better, work on his technique and work on what goes on between the ears.

He seems to have done all that, and his 151 on debut against India in Bangalore absolutely blew me away.

He showed the composure of a 32-year-old who had played 75 Tests.

But he's missed the boat a little bit of late, so the game is teaching him a few lessons.

He might not have set the world on fire at Hampshire last year, but that spell in county cricket would have given him experience in English conditions.

His nickname says it all - right now he's a 'pup', but in a couple of years' time he'll be a big ugly bloodhound.
