Tremlett is fit again after recovering from a side strain

Paceman Chris Tremlett will join England's World Cup squad as a travelling reserve to cover for Andrew Strauss's injury-hit bowling attack.

The 29-year-old is fit again after flying home early from the tour of Australia with a side strain.

And he is on hand to deputise should any one of four injured bowlers - Paul Collingwood, Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad - fail to recover.

England begin their World Cup campaign against Holland on 22 February.

Tremlett played three Tests in England's victorious Ashes campaign, taking 17 wickets at 23.35 in his three matches.

He featured in four of the one-day internationals, taking six wickets, before flying home with Shahzad at the start of February.

"Whilst the injured bowlers in the 15-man squad are all progressing well, the selectors have decided it would be prudent to have an additional player on hand who is acclimatised in case we need to apply to the event technical committee for a replacement due to injury," said national selector Geoff Miller.

Yorkshire pacemen Bresnan (calf) and Shahzad (hamstring), Nottinghamshire spinner Swann (knee/back) and Durham all-rounder Collingwood (back) all suffered their injuries during the one-day series against Australia, which England lost 6-1.

As a specialist fast bowler himself, Tremlett would only provide a like-for-like replacement option for Shahzad, with Bresnan capable of batting at seven in the order.

England coach Flower said there was "good news" to report on "most of our other players". He added: "The guys that came back [from Australia] early are progressing well."

Notts paceman Stuart Broad has played no cricket at all since the second Ashes Test in early December, when he pulled abdominal muscles, but he is not thought to be in any doubt in terms of being available for selection for the very start of the World Cup.

He did not include batsman Eoin Morgan in his list, however. The accomplished left-hander was ruled out of the World Cup on Tuesday with a broken finger, his place taken by Essex's Ravi Bopara.
