Mascarenhas pays tribute to Warne

Mascarenhas has taken 28 wickets in 22 Twenty20 matches
Dimitri Mascarenhas has thanked his Hampshire skipper Shane Warne after being picked for England's Twenty20 and one-day series against West Indies.

All-rounder Mascarenhas was one of two uncapped players called up, along with Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott.

Mascarenhas told BBC Sport: "Shane Warne's been brilliant with me. I can't say enough good things about him.

"He gets the best out of everyone in terms of bowling and batting and thinking about the game."

The Twenty20 games between England and West Indies take place at The Oval on Thursday and Friday.

And the first of the three-match one-day series takes place at Lord's on Sunday.

I don't want to be an experiment, I'd like to take the opportunity with both hands

Mascarenhas, 29, hopes to cement a place in the England team ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in September.

He said: "The Twenty20 World Cup is definitely in my mind now. Hopefully I can start well and see how it goes from there, but nothing's guaranteed.

"They've obviously got faith in me and if I can keep doing what I've been doing for Hampshire, making runs and taking wickets, I don't see a problem.

"I love playing with a smile on my face and enjoying myself and that's what I intend to do for England. I've waited a while now and I'm looking forward to the chance."

Trott, meanwhile, is also hoping his call-up is not a short-term measure on the part of England coach Peter Moores.

"I don't want to be an experiment, I'd like to take the opportunity with both hands," Trott, 26, told BBC Sport.

"This is what I've worked all my life for, so I don't want to play one or two games.

"Ian Bell reckons there's a great feeling in the team and to be part of that as a new guy is a special thing.

"The games are very important what with the World Cup in September.

"We play a lot of Twenty20, probably the most in the world. And the more you play the better you get, so there's no reason we shouldn't have a good shot at it."
