Injured Bond goes home
Shane Bond
New Zealand paceman Shane Bond has been ruled out of the rest of the England tour and will fly home on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old bowler has been out for over a year with a stress fracture of the back.

Bond did not play in the first Test and has only appeared in the second Test as a substitute fielder.

Wellington left-arm swing bowler James Franklin, presently playing club cricket in north-west England for Blackburn, has been called in as cover.

Bond has been given anti-inflammatories but is still feeling discomfort in his back.

It is not worth the risk

"I have still got a bit of aching and stiffness and it is case of needing a couple of weeks to rest," Bond said.

"I bowled eight overs in the nets the other day and could probably make it through a one-day international, but it is not worth the risk.

"Because it is the back there is a need to be a bit more cautious and that is what the management team have decided."

New Zealand tour manager Lindsay Crocker added: "The best thing for him is to go home, rest for a period, and build back up for some future engagements."

New Zealand's tour of England has been blighted by injuries.

Craig McMillan and Michael Papps both have finger fractures and Jacob Oram has a side strain.

And left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori tore a hamstring while fielding at Headingley on Sunday.
