Harmison gains confidence
S Harmison
We've got into a good position today only for the rain to fall again
Steve Harmison
Steve Harmison said he felt "really nervous" before the first two one-day internationals against West Indies.

The England paceman went wicketless in the victory in Guyana but took 1-16 in seven overs in Trinidad before the rain came to prevent a result.

He said: "Once I've got out there the confidence has grown. I've been confident of landing the ball in a decent area on a consistent basis.

"The way I'm bowling I feel a big part of the one-day team now."

Harmison had a torrid time in his introduction to England's one-day attack in December 2002 and some of those memories have preyed on his mind.

He said: "Before each game I've been thinking about the way things have gone for me in the past in Australia and I suppose you do worry a bit that the same thing might happen here.

"But I've drawn on my experiences in the Tests and I was really enjoying today's match before the rain came down again."

Harmison even appears to have conquered his old habit of being affected by wides.

He said: "The way my action is I'm always going to bowl the odd wide in this sort of cricket, but as long as I can keep it under control I'm not going to worry about it."

England were left ruing the tropical downpour that ended play after just 16 overs of the West Indies innings.

"It's been a long winter and it's a bit frustrating that we've got into a good position today only for the rain to fall again," said Harmison.
