Langley upbeat about Jones injury

Langley says players returning for Twenty20 need careful handling

Worcestershire physiotherapist Ben Langley is optimistic paceman Simon Jones will return in June after a recent knee operation.

"Simon's doing really well - we're really confident with what's happened," Langley told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"His original injury has healed well and we're positive about the outlook for him sometime in June," he said.

Langley also reported that Ben Smith and Kabir Ali were recovering well from their injuries.

"Kabir's unlucky with his hamstring but he's actually recovered very quickly.

"We're just going hold him back a little bit to make sure we're 100% sure for when he does return."

The bowler is expected to be fit again for the start of the Twenty20 competition, which Langley admits poses another potential problem.

"The Twenty20 is notoriously high in injury risk, so we'll have to be a little bit cunning about how we manage that."

Meanwhile Ben Smith should return from injury in time for the first home game of the season against Nottinghamshire on Monday.

The batsman dislocated his finger in Sunday's Friends Provident Trophy victory over Ireland.

"The flight home contributed to more swelling and bleeding than we had hoped," added the Worcester physio. "But we're very positive he should be okay."
