Somerset lost their first match in the Caribbean T20 to Guyana by one run, after losing seven wickets for six runs in the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Chasing 113 to win, following three wickets for captain Alfonso Thomas, Somerset needed eight off 17 balls, but slipped from 105-3 to 111 all out.

Thomas told BBC Somerset: "We had such a lot of opportunities to win the game but seemed scared of getting out.

"I hope we don't have to look back on this game and think what if?"

Guyana made 112-8 from their 20 overs with Ramnaresh Sarwan making 59, while Thomas was the pick of the Somerset bowlers with 3-23.

Somerset appeared to be cruising thanks to Nick Compton's 32 and Arul Suppiah's 26, but their dramatic collapse saw them fall short.

Three players were run out, Thomas without facing a ball, Gemaal Hussain for a golden duck, and Calum Haggett for one off one ball, as Somerset were dismissed for 111 on the final ball of the 20th over.

"It's a soft option to blame anybody and that's not what this team is all about, and I sure the lads will pick themselves up for training, work really hard and come back fighting," Thomas added.

Somerset's second game is on Friday against The Windward Islands.
