Wright resigns Scotland captaincy
Craig Wright is dismissed against the Netherlands
Wright had a poor game, out for one and taking 0-17 in four overs
Scotland captain Craig Wright has announced he is stepping down following the side's World Cup exit.

The Scots suffered heavy defeats by Australia and South Africa, before losing by eight wickets against the Netherlands at St Kitts on Thursday.

"I felt it was the right time to give someone else an opportunity to make their mark," said Wright.

Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said: "I can't see anyone other than Ryan Watson becoming captain."

Wright failed to shine with bat or ball against the Dutch - being dismissed for one and taking 0-17 during his bowling spell.

The fans deserve far more than we've given them over the course of the past 10 days

The Dutch reached a paltry target of 137 with more than 26 overs to spare and Wright admitted he was "slightly embarrassed" by the manner of defeat.

Speaking afterwards, Wright said: "If I was a rich man I'd be going round the ground right now handing back part or all of their (the fans') entrance fee.

"Because they've deserved far more than we've been able to give them over the course of the past 10 days."

Wright, who returned after missing the South Africa match to attend a funeral, said his players were much better than what they had shown on the pitch.

"We set out to come here and show we are a decent cricket team - which we are - but we have not done it.

"They [Netherlands] would have expected to work a harder for their win.

"Our batting hasn't given us any sort of platform in the power-plays. We like to think we've good players all the way down our order, but haven't shown it."
