Ryan Sidebottom set to depart Nottinghamshire

England bowler Ryan Sidebottom will leave Nottinghamshire at the end of the 2010 season after failing to agree a new contract at Trent Bridge.

The 32-year-old had been looking to sign a three-year contract at the club but had only been offered a two-year extension to his current deal.

"I didn't want to leave the club," Sidebottom told the club website.

"But this is the last contract I'll sign as a professional and I wanted the security of a three-year deal."

The former Yorkshire paceman added: "There was a two-year deal on the table for me and a three-year deal with certain stipulations but they didn't suit me and so I have to move on."

Sidebottom, who helped England win the ICC World Twenty20 in May, had been linked with a move to Sussex earlier in the season and Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said he was disappointed at the bowler's decision to leave Trent Bridge.

Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's disappointing when you offer a player a contract but we've spent a long time talking to Ryan and we obviously don't have an agreement and it's clear he wants to move on.

"Obviously if he can get a three-year deal offered by someone else he's going to look into that.

"It's an interesting judgement we have to make on players who come out of international cricket and into county cricket who are on a lot more money - and you have to take a lot more things into consideration.

"We felt it was a fair deal to offer a bowler like Ryan but obviously he didn't feel the same.

"Whenever he's been here he's bowled very well. He'll be a big loss for us but we've held back players like Luke Fletcher and Andrew Carter and hopefully they'll kick on for us.

"OK we're going to be weaker, and I accept that, but we have to look forward and bring some new players into the squad on a more regular basis."

The Trent Bridge side are currently challenging for the County Championship and a place in the Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-finals, and Sidebottom added that he would be aiming to leave the club on a high.

"Winning the Championship would be the perfect way to sign off and that's what I'm focussed on," Sidebottom continued.

"I'm an uncomplicated cricketer in that I give my all in every game and hopefully my team-mates and the Nottinghamshire members and supporters have appreciated that.

"I never planned to leave but I have to protect the best interests of my family and that is ultimately why I have made this decision."
