Mullaney seals Trent Bridge move

Nottinghamshire have signed all-rounder Steven Mullaney on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old played for Lancashire last season but struggled to get a regular spot and turned down the offer of a two-year contract to stay.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "He is able to bat at six or seven and offers a good medium-pace bowling option.

"I see him fitting into our one-day side but he'll be keen to show that he can play a part in the four-day game."

Mullaney graduated from the Lancashire academy and signed his first professional contract in 2006. He represented England Under-19s alongside fellow new signing Graeme White in the 2006 World Cup.

Newell added: "The main principle of our recruitment has been to find talented young cricketers who are ready to play in the first team and Steven fits that billing.

"He hasn't played as much cricket at Lancashire as he would have liked but they were keen to keep him which shows the regard in which he was held at Old Trafford."
