Kent all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has revealed he intends to remain at the county for another two years.

The 36-year-old joined the club from Surrey in 2007 and has been Kent's most consistent performer this season.

Though he is yet to sign a new contract, Mahmood said he was confident in remaining at the club.

"I haven't signed it yet. There's a mutual understanding between me, the chief executive and the coach," he told BBC Radio Kent.

When asked on the length of the proposed contract, Mahmood said: "Hopefully two years but let's see."

The former Pakistan all-rounder is on a one-day contract at Kent and he revealed that, despite his age, his body was coping well with the physical exertions of county cricket.

"Since I decided to play one-day cricket, my body is feeling good because I've got more rest and I play championship cricket when my body is feeling good.

"Every time I've played championship cricket, I've played really well. Last year, I played eight championship games and I had a really good record with the ball and the bat," he said.

Mahmood, who will miss this week's County Championship match against Essex due to the end of Ramadan, has excelled in all forms of the game this season, under the guidance of Kent coach Paul Farbrace.

This season, the right hander averages 51.83 with the bat in the County Championship and 52 wickets in all competitions.

"I'm mentally relaxed," he said.

"I don't have to play 97 days of cricket. I have to play 30 days of cricket and I've managed to get 30 more. The club have been really helping me."
