Sean Ervine rejects Zimbabwe to remain at Hampshire

Hampshire all-rounder Sean Ervine will play for the county again next season after pulling out of Zimbabwe's World Cup squad.

The 28-year-old had decided to resume his international career which would have made him an overseas player and thus unable to play on for the county.

But after being named in their 15-man squad for next month's World Cup, Ervine has now changed his mind.

"I have realised this is not the right time to leave Hampshire," he said.

"I have a great relationship with the club and its supporters and I feel like part of the family.

"I feel Hampshire is my home; so much so that I am planning to get married there next year.

"I do not, therefore, want to be away for long periods of time."

Ervine joined Hampshire in 2005 and helped them win last season's FP t20 title.

He announced his intention to leave the Rose Bowl earlier this month and was due to play his last game for the county during the recent Caribbean T20 tournament.

But the Irish passport holder, who described the club as a "family" when initially deciding to leave, has now performed a U-turn.

Ervine - whose brother Craig is in the Zimbabwe World Cup squad - has been replaced in the party by batsman Tinotenda Mawoyo, who has been in the international wilderness since playing two one-day internationals against Bangladesh in 2006.
