Glamorgan have inaugurated the initial XI players into their Hall of Fame.

The team, selected from a list of 40 and unveiled at the Hall of Fame Dinner at Sophia Gardens, reads:

Hugh Morris, Alan Jones, Steve James, Gilbert Parkhouse, Tony Lewis, Wilfred Wooler, Peter Walker, Eifion Jones, Don Shepherd, Steve Watkin, Jeff Jones

"To be in there with such illustrious names is very special," said Shepherd of his inclusion. "I wouldn't like to bowl at that side!"

Steve Watkin, named in the bowling attack alongside Shepherd, added:

"I'm absolutely delighted, it's a real honour for anyone who is named in that XI."

Former Glamorgan opener Steve James was surprised to see his name on the list.

"I was a bit shocked to see myself there, especially batting at three where I was never any good," laughed James.

"There have been so many great openers at Glamorgan that it's just a massive honour."

There are no overseas players amongst the initial XI inductees, meaning that the likes of Viv Richards and Javed Miandad miss out.

The event is part of Glamorgan's appeal year of fundraising, aimed at improving their Sophia Gardens home in the hope of hosting Test cricket.

The full list of 40 names was as follows:

William Bates, Alan Butcher, Johnnie Clay, Phil Clift, Tony Cordle, Dai Davies, Emrys Davies, Haydn Davies, Arnold Dyson, David Evans, Bernard Hedges, John Hopkins, Steve James, Alan Jones, Eifion Jones, Jeff Jones, Willie Jones, Majid Khan, Tony Lewis, Jim McConnon, Jack Mercer, Colin Metson, Javed Miandad, Hugh Morris, Len Muncer, Malcolm Nash, Rodney Ontong, Gilbert Parkhouse, Jim Pressdee, Frank Ryan, Viv Richards, Norman Riches, Don Shepherd, Greg Thomas, Maurice Turnbull, Peter Walker, Steve Watkin, Allan Watkins, Ossie Wheatley, Wilfred Wooller.
