Middlesex wrapped up a six-wicket win over leaders Glamorgan at Cardiff that dents the Welsh county's hopes of lifting the Division Two title.

Chasing 250 to win, Middlesex resumed on 200-4, reaching their target just 38 minutes into the final day's play.

Dawid Malan ended unbeaten on 84, with Gareth Berg 30 not out.

The defeat is likely to see Glamorgan replaced at the top of the table by Sussex, but they are 17 points ahead of third-placed Gloucestershire.

Glamorgan opened with spin from both ends at the start of the final day but it proved ineffectual as the fifth-wicket pair added 34 from the first seven overs.

Stand-in skipper Mark Wallace then turned to seam but, when he decided to take the second new ball, Middlesex only required 10 more to win.

Glamorgan's next game is the top of the table battle with Sussex at Hove on Friday week (27 August).

However, they will almost certainly be without captain Jamie Dalrymple, who suffered a broken right thumb when struck by Middlesex seamer Pedro Collins while batting in the first innings.

Middlesex's fourth Championship victory of the season keeps them in seventh but, in the private battle to end the season as London's top club, it increases their advantage over neighbours Surrey to 19 points.
