Morgan faced 137 balls as he helped Middlesex claim a draw

England batsman Eoin Morgan hit an unbeaten half century as Middlesex held on to draw with Sussex at Uxbridge.

With the game in the balance, after resuming on 65-4, Sussex declared on 240-9 - a lead of 342 - to give themselves a chance of securing a win.

But Morgan (58 not out), Neil Dexter (46) and England captain Andrew Strauss (37) helped Middlesex hold on for a draw with only two wickets remaining.

Spinner Monty Panesar was the pick of the Sussex attack, claiming 5-89.

The former England international, who is looking to fight his way back into Strauss's team, had helped reduce the hosts to 175-8.

His victims included the England skipper, who he bowled with a quick ball to leave the hosts on 89-4.

But Morgan batted out the last 12 overs with England team-mate Steve Finn as Middlesex secured their draw.

The Ireland-born left-hander frustrated the Sussex attack, with his 58 runs coming off 137 balls in a two-and-a-half-hour spell at the crease.
