Sidebottom haul puts Notts on top

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Nottinghamshire 395 Yorkshire 231 & 14-1
(Yorkshire 4pts, Notts 7pts)

Ryan Sidebottom reminded the England selectors of his ability with season-best figures of 5-59 as Nottinghamshire made Yorkshire follow on.

Andre Adams (4-30) also bowled well as Yorkshire, resuming on day three at Scarborough on 25-2, slumped to 105-8 in reply to Notts' first-innings 395.

Only 84 not out from Jonathan Bairstow and Deon Kruis' 37 spared Yorkshire blushes as they were dismissed for 231.

They were 14-1 in their second innings at stumps, still 150 behind.

Jacques Rudolph was the man to go from the final ball of the day, falling to Sidebottom for the second time in the match when he edged to David Hussey at slip.

That put the seal on a poor day for the Tykes, while Notts will fancy their chances of wrapping up victory on the final day.

Those chances might have been even brighter had it not been for the career-best efforts of Bairstow, who played the leading role in Yorkshire adding 126 for their final two first innings wickets.

While the other batsmen struggled, the 19-year-old dug in to hit 10 fours and a six in his 137-ball innings - his third unbeaten half-century of his fledgling career.

He was given good support by Matthew Hoggard (11) in adding 44 for the ninth wicket, before Kruis compiled his 37 from 39 balls in sharing 82 with Bairstow for the final wicket.

But the real damage for Yorkshire was done by Adams in a devastating burst of three wickets for six runs in seven overs in which he removed Joe Sayers, nightwatchman David Wainwright and Andrew Gale.

Sidebottom then got in on the act against his former county, claiming the wickets of Gerard Brophy, Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid before wrapping up the innings by removing Kruis after Paul Franks had ended Hoggard's resistance.
