New Zealand seamer Iain O'Brien claimed Leicestershire's best bowling figures of the season in a dramatic third day at Derby that saw 15 wickets fall.

O'Brien took 6-87, including a spell of 5-13 in just 23 balls.

Derbyshire had started the day on 188-2, in reply to the visitors' total of 412, and they remained in contention after being bowled out for 365.

In their second innings, Leicestershire slipped to 92-5 before recovering and going on to end the day on 209-7.

Having led the way for the home side's first innings on Wednesday, Garry Park (72) was the first casualty of the day when he edged a ball from spinner George Walker to slip in the third over.

But the middle order prevented the follow-on, as Derbyshire ended 102 runs past the target, with Dan Redfearn hitting 50, Jamie Pipe making 49 and Wavell Hinds and Greg Smith both ending on 40.

Leicestershire looked to be struggling in their second innings, losing five wickets for just 95 runs.

But half centuries from James Allenby (52) and wicketkeeper Tom New (63) helped the visitors close with a lead of 256.
